...here's Garcia in his last days, playing it all for laughs, cynical, pessimistic, and oddly comforting in just not giving a rat's ass anymore:
Dead Factoid: The apocryphal story of how the band got it's name:
Notable rock band The Grateful Dead purportedly were reading over a translation of parts of the [Egyptian]Book of the Dead when they came across the phrases, "We now return our souls to the creator, as we stand on the edge of eternal darkness. Let our chant fill the void in order that others may know. In the land of the night the ship of the sun is drawn by the grateful dead."
I see you've got your list out
Say your piece and get out
Yes I get the gist of it
but it's all right
Sorry that you feel that way
The only thing there is to say
Every silver lining's got a
Touch of grey
we will get by
we will survive
It's a sad state of affairs. Some days it seems as if the human equivalent of compassion has been decried and voided from the masses.
ReplyDeleteYet beneath the grit, there still lies a semblence of hope. (Hugs)Indigo
P.S. Touch of Grey is one of my fav. songs
someones driving that train, obviously high on cocaine...ok so i paraphrased a bit...welcome to the world...justice...is a washer dropped in a blind paupers tin, just to make a sound...
ReplyDeleteI've always loved this song and the entire "In The Dark" album. (Actually, I had it on cassette. Wow, cassettes seem even more antiquated than LPs, somehow. I have two shoe boxes full of them and almost never listen to any of them.)
ReplyDeletedig this...just was chatting about the Dead last night. Thanks for offering up ~
ReplyDeleteI'm sidetracking a little, but just noticed one of your tags..."no intelligent life forms"...Such an ironic whisper behind this post! And no! I have not heard of this group before, but I do know the Egyptian Book of the Dead! Refreshingly different post!
