Disturbed by some scuttling shadow
on the white edge of vision,
half-asleep in a city where
 buildings are served
in chocolate slabs,
pieces of crumbling cake
under a sweet spread
of buttercream moon,
I curl up my edges,
dream a fleck of
epicurean raft, floating
a picnic for dragonflies
on canals of
the murmuring night.

  1. I'm breathless at the beauty of this poem! OUtstanding!!

  2. Ha. Lovely. I've done one but the Internet is a big hassle here in Kerala-- many power weirdnesses so don't know if I'll get up. Phone doesn't like heat either

  3. smiles....curl up your edges...between the buttercream moon and chocolate slab i think i gained weight in reading this hedge...smiles.

  4. Highly descriptive verse wherein we can taste and see and feel all of it. At first I thought Fleck should be hanging out with my Snake, "floating on a raft in the murmuring night". But, alas, I see it's not a he.

  5. Yummy! really enjoyed this! thanks.

  6. What a grand word is epicurean and this gently floating poem! All of us should experience a night like this.

  7. Those are truly 'sweet' dreams, hedgewitch!

  8. Oooooh! Exactly perfectly right, even on the edge of things where it feels wrong.

  9. You get all of that from a terra cotta rooftop?
Your poetry vision is 20/20 Baby
(You must be craving sweets today)
    Loved your decadent 55
Thanks for making the effort to play in view
of your back issues, I'm very grateful Joy.
    Have a Kick Ass Week-End

    1. Thanks, G. When you've dieted as long as I have--like my whole life--it's not hard to hallucinate chocolate, baby. Have a great weekend--I will be kicking nothing, but hopefully nothing will be kicking me, so it's all good.

  10. your flow is impeccable. The murmuring night is downright delicious, recalling my own shadowy leaning towards things chocolate.

  11. Damn it now I want some desert at 5am!

I went a looking and apparently for awhile I put my 55 below some longer thought, so bear with me because I am following the directions and linking the 55 with comments. It is as it was first posted w comments.

This was the very first one I wrote...

have an epicurean kick ass week-end Joy!

  12. Dragonflies are surely a sign from the universe for me at this time.. so many have visited me over the last few days. I must meditate on this message of your poem.

"We make out of the quarrel with others, rhetoric, out of the quarrel with ourselves, poetry." ~William Butler Yeats
