Update

Having a bit of post-holiday malaise, connected to the meds I take for my wonky back, which chose Christmas Day as the time to self-destruct this year. However, this too shall soon pass and I am just fine, other than walking in a chemical fog, feeling NO pain except when I move certain extremities too abruptly,  and hope to be able to do some visiting soon. Thanks again to everyone who reads and supports me here at Verse Escape, and hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and is bracing for yet another bloody and depressing---I mean, Happy New Year.

  4. Suffering with my back this end too and facial nerve pain to boot. I feel you . . . sounds like you have some good meds. Hope the pain dissipates for you. x

  5. You almost lost it there.
    Saw a nice quote recently:

"Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt"

    K. Vonnegut from Slaughterhouse Five

    A smile?

  6. Feel better, and may the new year bring new joy. Your writing is so beautiful, one of the highlights of (my?/the?) blogosphere; I'm looking forward to seeing what the new year brings in terms of your blog. Take care!

  8. Sorry for the Xmas lumbar crucifixion ... ho ho friggen ho ... I have a friend with the sort of back malaise that when it's on, nothing else is ... it enacts a strange sort of vigil, a lower-register colloquy with the gods. Was Rilke right when he wrote, "how we squander our hours of pain"? Easy to write in a poem, um, otherwise whilst hanging with one's booty to the wind with Odin. Still ... I believe all this finds a way back into the word. Adds that register. Makes it real. Er. We were so relieved to pack the baby Jesus away with the rest of the holiday freight. No one gets to set the terms of their 3 nights in the cauldron of regeneration. Looking forward to your next yulelogos mandraker snowmad Odinesque rag!

    1. Thanks B--it is mostly annoying any more, though there was a time when it really was crucifying. I object to the lobotomizing affect of the muscle relaxants most--but of course, beats pain any day, though it seems to smother the muse in its pillowy fog. Glad to hear Baby Jesus has gone back to sleep till next solstice--we still have our blue lights up, because, too cold to take them down. ;_)

  12. So sorry you're suffering. Mind fog is better than excruciating pain, though. Hope you're yourself soon!
