Some musical accompaniment for those of stern stuff who want to revisit a day long gone, by the oldest semi-living rock and roll band.
Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away, Dandelion...
Farm out, gravy baby! I'm not a fan of the Strolling Bones, EXCEPT their really old stuff, which I suppose is the Brian Jones version of the band, though teenybopper me didn't know Brian Jones from Brian Wilson. I've always really liked "Dandelion" and enjoyed listening to it here, as well as sneaking across and hearing "She's A Rainbow", too.
ReplyDeleteI love all that late 60's stuff. I didn't even get to high school until the vacuous wasteland we call the 70s, but as disco took over the planet, I was retro-discovering Big Brother and Jefferson Airplane. I still love them today. It's A Beautiful Day, too. I should have been a hippie chick living in San Francisco, tuning in, turning on and dropping out. But I was in grade school in Michigan lol.
I did buy my first 45 rpm record in 1967 though. It was "To Sir, With Love." I think that was the year. The Summer Of Love was elsewhere. In the major city I lived in a suburb of, they had race riots instead. I remember that I could see the smoke.
Anyway, I still love "Dandelion."
Should I initiate a debate about Keith Richards being alive or just enjoy the tune? Hmmm . . .
ReplyDeleteThe Summer of Love was a media event, so you didn't miss anything except a lot of soon-to-be yuppies showboating around in funny clothes. Someday you might want to read one or both of the two depressing but excellent biographies of Janis Joplin out there by her closest female associates: Buried Alive, by Myra Friedman and Scars of Sweet Paradise, by Alice Echols--if you haven't already done so--besides making my poems/life look like joyful romps in the park with puppies and kittens, they are a vivid illustration of how my generation and the very concept of a counter-culture was bought and sold by money and media.
ReplyDeleteYou would have been the ultimate hippy chick, I'm sure FB. It's a Beautiful Day alone guarantees you have the mindset. I'm glad you were able to stand this particular cut, because over and above the song itself--always one of my faves--I think it has a pretty damn good video attached to it, that partially allays the more somber notes of my silly poem(---the dancing little girls at the end are kind of what it's all about.)
It would be interesting to see what people bought as their first piece of music and when. I think mine was *gag* "Sherry" by the Four Seasons, or else "Cathy's Clown," which would be not quite so bad.
@mama zen: That's a debate above my pay grade. This is my favorite story about Keith:
ReplyDelete"Keith Richards fans gathered outside a hospital Sunday where the Rolling Stones guitarist was believed to be undergoing treatment for a mild concussion reportedly suffered when he fell out of a palm tree on vacation in Fiji.
One newspaper also reported that Richards, 62, got on a Jet Ski after the fall and had another accident..."
